You probably don't need IE to download driver's if you get them from the manufacturer's website of your Ethernet adaptor.
Look up your manufacturer's website and go there with Firefox, there should be a link for either "Downloads", "Support", or "Drivers" and you should be able to update your driver there. > Well being that windows update automatically installs updated drivers > for my computer I doubt just using FireFox to go to windows update.
