Anyway, in fact I did not understand that you need to use "Automatic Update" might be, so you must have to use "Internet Explorer" if wish to use "Manually". I suggest you that contact Microsoft Support to resolve this issue, and my opinion about the error is "this error is not belong with Internet Explorer, it's belong with your "Windows Explorer". If possible please write down the error with error codes and you can directly search on Google how to hunt it down.
