Thanks, I was thinking that. It kind of makes sense, what make me
wonder about it is the original CRT going out at the same time. Would
pulling my graphics card from my other del and putting it in the
broken one be a good way to tell?

If it does turn out to be defective. I think it may be time to upgarde
my computer. Back about 13 years ago I built and repaired about a
dozen computers. I was pretty good then, but things have changed since
then. I have no idea about what is compatible with what anymore. I
currently have a pentium 4 1.7 ghz. A friend of mine has a couple
Intel Core2 Duo CPUs 6000 series. I assume these will be better than
the CPU I have. How do I tell if it will fit with my current
motherboard and how do I find the best graphics card that will fit
with my system. If not, I will get another motherboard. What should I
get? Do I need to buy a new case? I have a fry's electronics nearby. I
run a fair number of games (though I don't have to run the latest (and
can't currently), I also run a fair number of movies. Further I
usually multitask, for example, I download an audio stream, and
software file while working on a document or doing some programming or
playing a game.

Gee I guess what I need is a primer on building or upgrading computers
that is current with today's standards and parts.
