I,m no expert, but it kinda' sounds like your hard drive is going bad. Make sure it's not clogged and that there is good ventilation available. If the hard drive or processor is getting hot, the machine will cut off. Back-up everything and try another hard drive. Maybe some one in this group will give you better advice, but this will give some things to do until then.
