I recommend Reatogo, also known as Bart PE. It is a Linux program that can be downloaded free and burned to a CD along with an installation of Win XP. You will then have a bootable CD that will present you with a screen that looks like Win XP and functions whether or not you have a bootable hard drive. You can use My computer, system info, disk management, copy or alter files, run chkdsk and most AV programs all without having to know anything about Linux. _http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reatogo-X-PE_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reatogo-X-PE) _http://www.reatogo.de/REATOGO.htm_ (http://www.reatogo.de/REATOGO.htm) Engineman In a message dated 1/24/2009 2:08:13 A.M. I'd like to find a program that I could run on a pc to report how much memory it has, how many and what size hard drives and what speed and type processor. Ideally this would fit on a floppy disk but I realize that isn't likely these days. I am frequently given dumpster pcs and sometimes for instance with windows XP I can't get into the operating system that on them because I don't have a username and password so I can't see what it reports. Even when I do get in frequently it will not report much about the processor. I'm looking for freeware not something to buy. Any ideas? **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above.
