I would only like to confirm this also. In fact, its probably not only possible, its probably better to delete your previous version once you upgrade to new ones. The code is built of a variety of different items, that also minimezes the memmory needed for the subject to run properly, usually has a few security updates, inchances the performance... The software runs via the last update. In my personal opinion, the best practice would be, to keep the previous version until you have tested the new one, and are sure that it doesn't cause any problems, after that, its still wise to perhaps make a backup on a cd/dvd-rom or usb, and then delete it. When you do delete the previous version it is very important to use the appropriate uninstaller , so that all corresponding files in all locations (in all folders, the registry...) are actually deleted. If you are having problems with Java, one of the possibilities could be that you have two incompatible versions installed.
