Update After waiting many days for my post to appear here I and being unable to do anything to fix my problem, I finally gave up and restored my HD to the day before the problem started. (Yes, Windows Home Server is a wonderful thing!) It took half a day to make sure I restored the files that had changed since that date, but I now have a computer that hibernates again.
