Yes, he did not indicate HOW is gmail was being access. If only by browser then it is most like the cookie which tells gmail to keep him logged in is not being removed (he signed in indicating 'remember me on this computer'). It also sounds like is Mac is set up as single user which would of course mean that he should NOT be using 'remember me' (think of it as being a "public pc" which anybody has access to).
