Actually... No firewall has absolutely anything to do with the described 'connecting'/'loss of connection' issue (unless it is a very badly written firewall). I have seen similar problem which were usually caused the the router. Usually it is a router with WPA2-PSK authentication/encryption (running in wireless 'N' mode). The ones I have seen that give this problem are usually ones which have the 'push the button' setup where you have to 'push the button' the very first time you connect to it before it will actually work. And, for some reason every once in a while it loses track and you need to 'push the button' again to get it to connect again (recently the one which I had problems with was a Linksys/Cisco wireless N with the button).
