By default, the screen saver does not require a password. And, from
your
question I suspect that this computer you bought was not new and has
a password enabled on the user.
And, since you do not indicate whether it is Win7, Vista, XP or what I
will only give you the basics
After logging in (I presume you can do this right?) you have to get to
the
screen properties - screensaver where you can set what screen save to
use.
It is there that you can turn on/off the requirement for a password
(with
XP it is the checkbox indicating on resume display Welcome screen.

The password is the users password and is NOT the screensaver
password.

And, by default the Safe Mode Administrator does NOT have a password
(for XP; for Vista and Win7 it is different)
