Hi Duncan,

When you format NTFS choose the slow way, and yes I know it sounds
crazy when you are busy with installing XP do not connect with
internet / first a complete installation then connect with the
internet. When you have a legal XP the code is important, you may use
another CD-ROM / Do not flash the BIOS / After deleting all partitions
use one partition, more partitions slows down the system / FORMAT NTFS
slow / after installing XP install the drivers (motherboard)/ connect
with the internet / Install the Firewall found at
http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/anti-virus-spyware-free-download.htm
which let you choose / Then install the best antivirus program
http://free-av.de/ I am using the premium version is much faster.
Goodluck ;-)

P.S. I am new here so not sure how to reply so if someone has this
message my mistake sorry
