LCD lowest common denominator.
Best Buy along with Circuit City employ low cost techs. The 100-150
you pay goes a long way to making the bottom line of the company look
good, but their techs get below market wages.
I can charge anywhere from 25-75 an hour to work on someone
system. However they will only get charged for actual work and if I
cant fix it I don't get paid. I also will take the time to let them
know what I am doing.
When you mass market tech work this will be what you end up with,
because you are not employing a tech, you are paying a stores
overhead, and profit line. They could care less how you as a
customer end up, their philosophy is get it in and get it out in as
short a time as possible.

To me it was often the last step in a process. I would try all

you can reinstall WinXP without wiping the drive.
A co-worker took her computer back to Best Buy, from whence it
had been purchased. for some repair work of some sort. They called
her the next day to tell her it was all fixed. She took it home to
find her hard drive bare. Perhaps the OS was still there or had
been re-installed, I do not recall. All her other data and files
were gone. She called to complain, and was informed then that they
had erased her hard drive, as provided for in her service
agreement. She asked if that had been the only recourse, and was
told that the person who had worked on it was not in that day, but
she could be assured that if erasure had been performed, it would
have been the appropriate action.
She complained that they should have called about that, and if they
had, she would have opted for a new drive as opposed to losing her data.
