You may not want to but you might have no choice depending on the ISP hosting your mail. You'll need to contact each and explicitly ask about off (their)net access to your account. Many are setup precisely to prevent what you are trying to do casually. They don't want drive-by spammers using their systems. One of my former providers was welling to permit off-net access if I could give them a static IP.
