I have an Epson Perfection V100 Photo Scanner (List $100). The case is in two halves, which snap together. This is called "value engineered for production". To take apart a case like that, you need to pry at the line between the two halves with a thin piece of metal? plastic? until you find the "barbs" that hold the case together. Then you must push the barb towards the inside of the case, and then pry the case apart a bit and search for the next barb.

 >I've tried all manner of pressing & prying, but the glass is in there to
stay.

Sometimes the screws are on the bottom. The whole case lifts off.
