More info about my problem (stopping a LiveupDate request at bootup):

Windows Task Manager says that there is an application called LiveupDate running when the DVD burner registration request is on-screen. Right-clicking on this application and selecting "go to process," I see that the process is FWManager.exe. This does not appear in any Startup folder for any user account.

Searching with Google, not much appears -- the best is at http://pcpitstop.com/spycheck/SWList.asp?pg=23&st=0, but this doesn't tell me how to remove it.

I found it using MSconfig, and have removed it from the startup menu. I will now see if this works -- if not, I am at a loss.

I checked the startup folder of all users profiles, including All Users and Administrator, and do not find this program there.

The program executes about 60 seconds after bootup is completed.

Have PC with Windows XP Home. Installed a new external DVD burner.
There is a "Liveupdate" item that appears whenever I boot up that
requests registration info to be sent for the burner. The problem is
that when I fill in the info and click to register, an error message
appears that "user registration is failed." Thus, I can't register and
the registration window reappears at each reboot.

How can I erase the appearance? BTW, "LiveupDate" is the name that
appears in the taskbar for the registration item.
