That's what I'm trying to do. I'm looking for something
like the plastic "milk crate" that I put my LP's in (I
have lots of those as well - I'm going to be getting rid
of those). I could stack those plastic crates with 50 or
60 albums. I don't need to see the media on a reglar
basis - that's what the MP3 files are for. Yes, the
furniture is very nice, but for me, it's overkill.

I really would like to keep the covers, etc. and will keep
looking for what makes sense.

I like the Clementine tangerines from Spain. The wooden boxes are a good size for storing CDs/DVDs--and audio tapes. They stack well, and fit on our book shelves, as long as you pad the wires on the bottom box.

For backups and archives, I use sleeves/pages in notebook[s], except for software that has big manuals like Adobe. I tape the disk[s] in the sleeve[s] into the front of the manuals.

Music CDs are on some slotted boards on the wall [from IKEA], or in a drawer after I put the music on iPods. Videos are on tall, shallow shelving with names facing out, easy to find.

Old disks are tossed onto a bamboo pole embedded in a large block of foam. Ancient disks hang from trees to distract birds.

One size does not fit all.
