I established another account and it exhibited the same behavior.
I think this is a hardware issue or something to do with the root OS. What d'you think? BTW the battery was just replaced, because the previous one was dying without much load with no warning. The new battery is otherwise working very well.
This behavior started with the old battery and continues.
I thought it was an issue caused by the old battery, but with all the resets, etc. I think anything residual from the old battery should have been removed.
