My parents recently bought a camcorder that saves content to a DVD (Hitachi DZGX5020A). Unfortunately this camcorder was so cheap that it didn't even come with a digital output jack; you either have to finalize the disk to use it in a player or use the analog video to pipe the content to a tuner.

I've got two questions:

1. Is there a way to save the DVD content to their computer in AVI format?
2. Is there a way to save or watch the content before the disk is finalized?
