Use both. Spyware filters work better with several being used. Windows Defender seems to work and is pretty trouble free.
I typically run Spybot Search and Destroy, Lavasoft's Ad aware, MS's Defender, Stopzilla and Eeye's Blink. They all catch different things and don't seem to interfere with each other. Stopzilla, MS, and Blink are running all of time. Blink is free for a year and the most troublesome since it is the most sensitive. It is designed to find things that act like a virus/spyware as well as things it has signatures for. It is also the program I would put on a machine for some one who knows nothing about computer security. Stopzilla blocks pop ups and spyware. My next step is to setup Astaro's Free Security gateway software on an old PC box to protect our home network. <http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Anti-Virus_Utilities/Astaro_Network_Security.html> On 8/28/07, Stephen Meskin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Does anyone have experience comparing these two? > > I have used Spybot for a couple of years I also go thru a router and use > Firefox, Thunderbird and AVG with Windows XP Firewall off and have had > no problem yet. > My wife heard that Defender was very good, she goes thru the same > router, uses Firefox, M$ Outlook and AVG with Windows XP Firewall turned on. > I said I would check Defender with you guys. > Steve > > > ************************************************************************ > * ==> QUICK LIST-COMMAND REFERENCE - Put the following commands in <== > * ==> the body of an email & send 'em to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <== > * Join the list: SUBSCRIBE COMPUTERGUYS-L Your Name > * Too much mail?
