It's not that we want to control what people write, after they're in the group. We want to control who gets in to the group. So we need to approve or deny, so we need the request to go to Pending.
I understand--I have a closed group like that also. How many potential members do you have? How do the neighbors find out about the group? Perhaps it would work to simply have them email you and you could send invites or even direct add them to your group?
