nearly 2 years when I got my 4G iPod, I picked a $10/$20 mini-digital camera case (at Best Buy, IIRC) with velcro closure and a velcro belt loop. It also has a small pouch on on front under main flap where I keep my ear buds. It has padding so the little sucker has been safe .... so far.
