I use this case from Belkin <http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=367153>. It is really tough with a rubber back and a thick clear plastic front. It will take a 30GB or a 60GB There is a hole which is just big enough for the sync/charger cable at the bottom and two on the top for jack and hold button. It is a pain in the butt to get the iPod out of it but you should not need to often.
The other problem I had with it is that the screw that holds the case on the belt loop pulls out and it fell off my belt. Super glue fixed that. I also had the face get scratched up so I am on my second one but one of the screen covers would protect the case as well as the screen. I'm fairly hard on this stuff but this one has survived over a year and the iPod still looks like new.
