How Often Do You Turn Off the Power to Your Internet Connection?
2/3 say "Never"
Where I work there are three Windows machines and the one Mac that I
'polluted' the place with. The three Windows machines grind away all
day long. Their monitors never blank out, their hard drives never spin
down when not needed, and the computers never go to sleep. They do
typically get turned off at the end of the day, unless that little step
is forgotten about. The monitors and peripherals are never turned off.
I have asked why they do not configure those computers to go into
'sleep' mode after a certain time of non-use has elapsed, or why they
do not arrange for the drives to stop running when not needed. or why
they do not hit the "off" button of the monitors and printers at the
end of the day. The only answer I have ever gotten is a shrug or a
"How do you do that?" Yikes.
