Guy from GoDaddy called today to see if I need any more services (well, he didn't exactly say this, but...) I took the opportunity to ask him about their privacy policy. He insisted that all registration companies have to submit the same info. to Whois, where it is available to the public...UNLESS you pay for extra privacy protection to use GoDaddy's information instead. I asked if I can edit my personal info and he said yes, so long as it is a legitimate address. Think I will go this less expensive route. Don't think I should have to pay extra to buy a post office box address or these privacy add-ons, so will have to have a new address and maybe new phone # and take my chances. Having an online presence via a domain name & website shouldn't have to mean having personal info. made public unless one pays extra to keep it private. Maybe I'll try 1600 Penn. Ave, D.C.

I thought it was a bit creepy too. On the other hand, a domain is a
valuable thing to be given for just a few dollars. With this should come
some accountability.

I can see having some of the info. public to avoid the situation of someone
poaching someone else's name for a domain (as I did) and that person not
being able to find out (or find out easily) who did this or why. But the
idea that you would have to make your home address, etc. available to the
world and for being sold in order to register a domain name if you are
stupid enough to give your real address and other personal info. like I did,
seems crazy to me. There has to be better ways to address both sets of
concerns.
