I went for the Konica Minolta Dimage 5400ii (differs from the 5400 which had
incandescent lights as opposed to fluorescent ...also, 5400ii has digital
ICE IV which has 4 correction features) ...I chose this because I have over
10000 slides mostly kodachrome 25 or 64 ...the other choise was the nikon
scanner which was reported to have trouble with kodachrome emulsion. Lazy
me, I have yet to start using it. If I ever get out of my recliner, I'll
report results. I got it used. They no longer make it. Try reading up on
scanners be4 buying. Once you digitize everything and make many backup
copies, you can resell the scanner on ebay often for more than you spent.
Keep it nice and clean and keep the box.

Still, if you have a lot of slides I can see where this might be handy.
Personally, I too would want a scanner I could use for other things besides
slides.

re: dpi - keep in mind that for web or SD TV use you likely only need a
maximum of 640X480 anyway. Somebody with a slide will have to do the math on
that one. If you're going to send them to HD that's a whole 'nother set of
issues.
