Richard,
As I wrote in my message to you on Jan. 2, I said then that I would
record on a high-quality audio card in a PC. This is because I have
both a good audio card and a PC. You might not have the same.
When I am personally recording live music, I use a minidisc portable
recorder (before anyone hoots at this old technology, soon to be
obsolete, be aware that my minidisc recorder can record in full PCM for
84 minutes on a disk, or 7 hours on the highest quality compressed ATRAC
recording, and the battery lasts 15 hours of recording; plus, I use a
very high quality microphone. The sound that I achieve with it is very
high. Plus, it can record and play mp3 and serve as a digital backup
for computer files.). This minidisc recorder connects to the PC with a
USB port and has software that permits fast download & upload from the
recorder.
I haven't tried an analog/USB interface instead of a sound card for
analog recording, such as from a cassette recorder or a turntable.
Thus, I don't know what problems might occur with this type of
interface. I don't know what kind of software comes with this kind of
analog/USB interface. If it works for you, then good. Please let us
all know how well the analog/USB port works with both turntable &
cassette playback. BTW, both record & cassette playback might have a
problem with audio equalization -- RIAA for records, Dolby for cassette,
yet other for 78 records.

Robert,
This looks like a good plan. Thanks for the advice from a voice of
experience.
