Gerald,
I have no problem with paying taxes... My wife and I pay $59,000/yr to Federal and $11,000/yr to the state, and another $6,000/yr locally to the city and county for property (and our rates are low!) I am a small business and very overworked... the fewer forms and licenses the better... So I simply charge for my SERVICES, and not the supplies. Small supplies are no charge, and larger items are paid as a pass-through item to the client. I do all the work, pay for the mistakes, bill the clients, deposit the checks, fill out the tax forms, and maintain my equipment. Since 1988, I have paid 1.2 million to the federal government, and I see very little of what that money does (unless I watch the 6 o'clock news). I have paid $200,000 to the state of NC, and I see a lot of what that money does... schools, roads, bridges, Medicaid, community incentive programs, etc... the closer to home the money is spent, the more you get for your money. I occasionally get 1099's from customers, but not often. My wife and I are both self employed, so we pay quarterly estimates, but not withholding for ourselves. (We do withhold for her employees). Keeping up with the tax law changes and adjusting my investments to take advantage of changes is taking a larger portion of my time in recent years... I am growing weary of it.

what is your big aversion to paying taxes. do you get 1099's from your
customers? if not, you should be filing and paying withholding tax both state
and federal monthly.

if you are buying in one state, and paying the state taxes there, then
transfering the equipment and title to another state and another owner, i'd bet
just about anything that is a no no. you could probably act at their
purchasing agent and purchase the equipment for them and.............

37 states have franchise taxes. you gotta pay a tax to practice in that state.
wait til you guys get hit with them. and the forms. makes sales tax a
piece of cake.

sales tax on labor has always been a middlie thing that varies from state to
state. i think VA does not charge tax on food(did not back in the 70's), but
md does. the gas tax and the cigarette tax in va is less than md. it is a
state right. va does not charge the taxes, and the services suck.

texas apparently does not have an income tax, so the state is broke. they
cannot build toll roads, so they are going to have private companies build
their tollways.

you have to pay to live in a civilized society. in VA, you can carry a gun
anywhere. just can't drive anywhere to get the job done.
