I don't have the Sonnet Tempo ATA100 card in my G4, but I do have one
of their SATA cards, so my experience may have some relevance. I have
not had any problems with it whatsoever. My boot drive on that computer
is now the one connected to the SATA card and it has never had problems
recognizing the drive, booting, going to sleep or waking from sleep.
I am running Tiger on it as well.
Looking at the xlr8yourmac link you gave, you'll notice that the
problems
with that card were reported only with some later versions of 10.2.
The fact
that no other problems have been reported is a good sign that they have
been fixed, since Sonnet continued to sell the cards until quite
recently.
My recollection is that the sleep problem only arises now with cards
that
have external connections. I decided against Sonnet's combo cards for
this very reason.

Subject: Sonnet ATA PCI card
We have old PowerMac G4s that limit the size of hard drives we can use
on the internal bus. I got a [free] Sonnet Tempo ATA100 PCI card so
that
Bob can put a larger hard drive in his Mac.
Does anyone have this card? All I can find about it is problems listed
at http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/OSX/sonnet_ide_cards_and_10_2.html. Our
Macs are running Tiger. Do these cards have sleep or other problems
with
Panther or Tiger?
Suggestions, comments, please, before I install it! [Maybe we need
another large external FW drive instead.]
