I think in the end, if Apple started allowing os x on non apple x86 hardware
they would gain maketshare and not commit suicide as you put it.  I know
many who would not spend the money to buy apple hardware to get the os, but
if I could buy the os and put it on my hardware I'd do it in a second.  If
nothing else, Apple could release a product list of motherboards etc that
would be supported, or for that matter simply say if you put our os on your
hardware it's not supported at all.
