what does "dual core" mean?????

The Core 2 Duos are very nice CPUs. Even though I prefer AMD chips, these
outperform the AMDs.
For some odd reason i want to know if the cores show up as seperate
cpu's in taskmanager (i assume vista has a taskmanager)
All the dual-core chips I've used have.
