It is hard to call any update "needed." I would call it "interesting." 3.1 is twice as fast as the next fastest browser. The big deal is that with 3.1 Apple leads the pack with the inclusion of some new HTML5 features. One is the ability to download and use fonts for screen display and the other is CSS-based animations.
