Actually, it was the OP that mistakenly believed shuffling drive letters was his problem. So far this thread has gone off on a completely useless tangent, certainly not helpful to him at all.
His question: How can I get my "J" external drive to show up in the [Win XP File and Settings Transfer Wizard] defaults? My answer: I'm sorry, I don't know. But I do know you're wasting your time using F&S. Implement a good backup strategy instead.
