That's a very premature assumption. USB flash drives are far too unreliable for anything other than sneaker-netting. (One of my users just lost her entire masters' thesis on one, despite my warnings to her not to do that.) CD-Rs and DVD-Rs are still good options for quick and easy backups and would have saved her thesis for less than a quarter. External hard drives and online backups are viable options for backup as well, but each medium has its deficiencies that another usually overcomes. Use them all and you have a rock solid backup solution. That said, I rarely, if ever, backup my music to disc. That's the purview of hard drives, if no other reason other than capacity. At last count, it's replicated on 4 drives: 1 in the main computer downstairs, 1 drive in the upstairs computer, 1 external hard drive and 1 more at work that serves as an offsite archive as well as storage for listening to my music while at work. And there's still the original CDs, which never get played any longer. If I were a little less cheap, I'd use Mozy as well, but I just stick to its free service for my regular data. ************************************************************************* ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *************************************************************************
