Have to say that "author" was particularly ignorant.
Didn't seem to appreciate the difference between a
filesystem and the OS that runs on top of it. Didn't
know that Unix evolved on a variety of filesystems.
Most tellingly, when complaining about "Unix compatibility",
didn't know that OS X is a fully certified, POSIX-compliant
Unix, but that Linux is not.
He is right that most other OSes will not read HFS+
without special help, but that is not necessarily the fault
of Apple.

It seems from the Linux perspective, Apple didn't get its file system
