Which kind of messages are bouncing?

I've had problems with both Verizon and Yahoo SMTP servers for about a
month, but the POP servers are OK--so far. Seems that they've installed
new verification schemes they think will prevent spamming/spoofing, and
it's especially annoying to users who have used the services for a long
time. I had to verify/authenticate multiple email addresses online to be
able to send email since then.

Verizon's problem is odd. They give you extra subaccounts. Each account
has a "real" name and the name that you give it. Our account names have
worked until about the same time your problems started, but now it wants
me to use the original names, which BTW, they never told us and I had to
find when the mail processes broke. For instance, Bob named an account
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" but Verizon message is that it should be
resxft6u not cuckoobananas. Looks like a database problem. I had to go
into subaccounts and send a failed email to find out what the "real"
name is for each account and change my email settings to use them. Most
people wouldn't have a clue about fixing this. Verizon should fix it on
their end.

I use Thunderbird email. It gives the following message when I use the
alias name instead of the Verizon name. I wonder if they've made changes
in the database for email recently.

"An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server
responded 5.7.1 Authentication is required to send mail
as <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. Please verify that your email
address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again."

The email isn't sent at all. Sending fails. How do they know that
cuckoobananas is resxft6u, and why don't they accept the account name??
This may or may not be related to the bounced/blocked email, but is it a
coincidence that both problems started at the same time?

Oh, my solution is to use the GMail SMTP servers and not bother to
reconfigure my Verizon and Yahoo email accounts. :-D

I've had my email address at potomacnet.com for about 15 years and a Verizon DSL
since 1996, first in DC and now in Pittsburgh. About 4 weeks ago starting April
18, all my mail to verizon.net addresses (and only verizon.net addresses, all
other emails go through) began bouncing with the following returned message:

<"recipient"@verizon.net>: connect to relay.verizon.net[206.46.232.11]: server refused mail service

These bounce messages take 5 days to get back to me.

Since I also have a verizon.net account, in addition to contacting
potomacnet,com, I contacted Verizon.

After navigating through voice mail hell, I reached a customer service rep on
April 25th. She said she would send it to the proper dept. for investigation and
I'd receive a call in 36 to 72 hours.

On May 1st with no callback, I again contacted Verizon, got someone different
and was told I'd hear in 48 hours

On May 5, Eugene told me it was being sent to the TMG(??) dept with a case
number, which he gave me and I'd hear back in 24 hours.

Still nothing. Where and how can I reach someone to resolve this?
