IIRC UDF is the format used by Adaptec / Roxio EZ CD Creator for "Drag to Disc" formatting (packet writing) in which the CD disc appears to the computer "like a disc drive." It's been a long while, but back in the Adaptec days, the EZ CD Creator came with a "UDF Reader" installer (.exe file) that one could freely distribute (or obtain, similar to Adobe Reader) for reading UDF formatted discs. When a CD-RW disc is formatted UDF, the disc space is reusable, "forever." With a CD-R disc, if an updated file is written to the disc, it has to be written to an unused area, and the "old" file is deleted from the directory. Or so I understood when I read about it a long time ago.
If you Google "UDF Reader" you will get the Adapted software as the first hit. Dunno if it works on later versions of the OS. But there's lots more hits that should help. I would think that you would simply copy all the files to a more convenient medium, once able to read your discs, rather than trying to keep using them. Read the discs on a PC and copy them over the network to convenient storage on the Mac. Disk drive space is very cheap these days.
