They only provide the one, small-ish battery that's built into the unit.
You can have extra batteries on hand, but you have to have a way of charging
them.  There is a small A/C adapter port on the side, but from my research
there's nothing available to go into it.  Plenty of forum threads on the web
on this subject.

I've got an extra 300 VA UPS laying around that I can plug the inside unit
into to provide extra battery power.  The installation tech assured me that
it would work, FWIW.  There's no reason you can't use a bigger UPS for the
job.

Otherwise, there's no monthly cost that I recall, beyond what you pay for
the phone service.
