I'm using Mozilla as my default browser for everything that works, because I like its interface, e.g., its bookmarks manager. I like the ability to manually sort my bookmarks by just dragging and dropping them. They are not in alphabetical order, nor in any "logical" order (i.e., not in any order that the computer can sort on). And I like the cascading menus that Mozilla bookmarks are displayed it. But I need to open some pages in browsers that are being kept up to date. They stopped updating Mozilla a long time ago. I also like the download manager in Mozilla. Both the download manager and the bookmarks manager in Firefox seem to lack features. Maybe the features are there, but are just "hidden" from the user. Firefox seems to be designed for the beginner, and "you are never allowed to take the training wheels off." (A complaint I make about Windows in general. Maybe after a long period of time I will "discover" how to use the features in Firefox. I don't find any! detailed tutorial on managing and using Firefox bookmarks efficiently.
Put simply, I need Firefox for maybe 10% of what I do. I keep using Mozilla because I can't find in Firefox the features I know and love in Mozilla, and I really don't want to spend a bunch of time hunting for those features. Why have they given me a car that I steer with my feet and accelerate and brake with my hands? To be more explicit about the Mozilla bookmark manager, I can display everything in one pane, in a single indented list. If I click on a "+" in front of a folder, the folder opens, with it's contents displayed in that single list, and the contents indented one tab stop in (to the right) from the tab stop of the folder. Thus I can see the contents of two or more folders at once, and when I drag/drop a URL from one folder to another, I can also position the URL in the list of the destination folder. Is there maybe a plug-in that will provide Firefox with the "Mozilla bookmark manager interface"? And, oh by the way, why did the call it the bookmarks "manager" in Mozilla, and the bookmarks "organizer" in Firefox. Who benefits from the change in terminology. This isn't literature, after all. Oh, and I don't like the "open all in tabs" menu item on the Firefox bookmarks menu, and would like to delete it. I've hit it once or twice by accident and had a mess as large number of bookmarks are being opened unintentionally. Didn't find a stop button. It's probably in the setting dialog somewhere, just haven't taken the time to look for it. The Windows "open with" dialog would be useful if it didn't take forever to open. It seems that each time I try to use it, it is generating a new database of all the applications on the machine, and looking far and wide, not just in "Program Files." Rant off.
