Oh brilliant idea Betty! Duh! I should have known the G5 tower could hold 2 SATA drives but you say it can hold 3?

It's my friend's machine so I don't have it handy to poke around in. It's this machine however:

If they decide to upgrade to Leopard to use Time Machine, would the 1TB Seagate or their 1.5 TB drive work with Time machine? (I saw some at New Egg for $109 and $129 respectively, 5 year warranties)

Initially I think I remember Time Machine was picky about its hosts drives but I heard that may have changed .... ?

Its 160GB internal drive has 140 GBs on it now.

Buy another internal drive or two--they're cheap, and the internal bus is fast enough. Your G5 has room for at least 2 or 3 internal HDs [a 3rd can go on the bus with the optical drive, but you need a secure place to attach it]. 160 GB isn't much if you use Photoshop and do animation or video. I have around 300GB in my G4, plus two external FW drives for backup.

How about "500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 SATA II 7200RPM 32MB Cache - 5yr Seagate Warranty for $71.99" or "1.0TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 SATA II 7200RPM 32MB W/ Perpendicular Drive Technology New w/5 Year Seagate Warranty for $119.99" at OtherWorld, macsales.com.

Set browsers to delete cache files when you quit. Also use Yasu or MacJanitor to delete temp, cache, log files. Repair permissions before and after cleanup. Keep the PS scratch disk on an internal drive. Move the iTunes library to another drive, or buy the new internal drives. Don't partition your drives if you can avoid it.
