Notebook is the term du jour for what everyone used to call laptops. They
generally do have a hard drive (and a DVD drive as well). 

The thing you can write on is usually called a tablet PC. 

Netbooks are smaller than either and usually have a solid state drive
instead of a hard drive. They're cheap, light, and handy for light duty
stuff (email, web browsing, etc.) but aren't up to snuff for heavy duty
things like video editing or big databases.
