We already have the full Final Cut suite (please don't ask why we
bought the software before the hardware-wasn't my decision), &
I'd like to get some suggestions for hardware. Hopefully, we can
keep this under $10,000. Doesn't have to be top of the line, but
definitely more than a basic model.

We have a PowerMac G5 2.0 GHz, dual processor, 3.5 GB RAM. It works great with Final Cut, especially compared to my old G4 [and the IIfx!]. It seems to be about as fast as my Intel MacBook. You'll need a Mac Pro,

Most important for video editing is that you can never have enough hard drive space or RAM, and the video card has to match your needs/wishes. Get the MacPro that you can afford. Even the base model will be OK, but not as good as the higher ones. Depending on your budget, you can easily add the extra RAM, hard drives, video cards yourself and save probably 50%. It's easy, but how much time and expertise do you have? Also get two quality 24-30" displays.

Mac Pro has 4 hard drive bays, up to 4TB. Consider serial-attached SCSI [SAS] in one bay--it's blazing fast [3Gbps]. Might still need eSATA drives. Take your savings and get a good camera w/FW, lenses, toys, drinks, munchies.

Video editing is fattening. Get a Wii, too.
