It works great on Macs prior to OS X.5 (Leopard). It provides an easy GUI for configuring the Mac's NetInfo database to share files. It is free. It does not avoid the OS's limitation of 10 connections, for more you need to buy the $1,000 server version of the Mac OS. Apple added its own easy to use file sharing in OS X.5.
