For the older stuff I think you may need to settle for some thing a bit more
kludgy.  I have one pair of external speakers  that folds out into a pair of
connected speakers that take four AAA batteries and isn't that much bigger
than my 80gB iPod or a couple of decks of cards.  They connect through a
regular head phone jack.  I got them some place like CVS.

This one might fit the bill for you if you are mainly interested in
podcasts.  <
