no speaker, as you say, but what a cool little thing and it's sooo tiny!! ...you can get a nice little speaker that plugs in2 it and works on batteries ...or you could listen with a nice set of earphones ...or you could get a bluetooth thing (some have a dongle you plug in2 the speaker outlet and then it bluetooths to your earphones) ...I also have seen bluetooth portable speakers battery operated ...or else, you could buy a boombox and forget all this folderol...
oh yeah, also got a motorola m500 which is the same player (uses same software) but has 5gb internal and rechargeable ...found that on ebay brand NIB for $28 + tax. It has a real HDD in it. It runs great! Battery life is good on these.
