I can tell you what NOT to use, and that's any old versions of
the Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. I tried it a few years ago
for my son, and that version was plainly ported from the Windows
version by people who didn't have any idea how OS X works.
It required admin authorization to install and once I installed it,
nothing I tried would enable it to run in my son's non-admin
account.

It was updated last year so maybe it doesn't have that problem
any more, but since the version I tried was unusable I remain
leery of the series. The thing we eventually settled on for my
son was a program called Master Key, a bare bones but
effective program. You can find it at

http://macinmind.com/?pid=2&progid=2&subpid=1

It is still highly rated on Versiontracker.

I remember using Mavis Beacon (Bacon?) typing tutor when
I had to learn - - a whole bunch of years ago. I see that a
Mac version is still available on Amazon.

Does anyone have any experience with the various touch typing tutorial
software available for OS X and can recommend one over the others ?

I am trying to make a purchase recommendation for an older person who
never learned to touch type and wants to learn now.

Thanks,

db
