Not true IMHO.
A set of Pro-Logic Dolby Surround speakers (a left and a right and a
woofer unit) by Altec Lansing or other manufacturers will rival serious
audiophile systems.

If you look around at thrift shops, 2nd hand stores you can find them for 
$20-$30 and probably $125 new.  You'll be amazed...
