I guess this is close to OT, but WTH: Matt Polk (as in Polk Audio) was a
fraternity brother of mine. In his freshman dorm room he had an audio system
that he had built from scratch in high school (including the speakers). You
simply would not believe the sound. One day Polk wasn't around and I noticed
his roommate listening to music on a horrible, tinny radio alarm clock. I
asked him why he would do this when he had this incredible system to use,
and he said that it was impossible to concentrate on studying when the thing
was in use, even if you turned all the equalizer settings all the way down.

I don't think Matt has anything to do with Polk Audio any more, though. I
heard that he sold the company for a pile of money.
