The big failure was that the folks at WordPerfect never figured out how 
to re-engineer their program for a GUI. They made lots of mistakes. Their 
menu structure was terrible. The tried to invent their own user interface 
rules instead of following the operating system's conventions. It was a 
flop.

As much as I criticize MS for its user interface foibles, the errors made 
by WordPerfect Corp were far, far worse.
