When i hold Shift and press the colon and the parenthesis keys, my output doesn't change...it remains as :) for me and the receiver. However, when i input those characters in a web post and post to the Web, it shows up as an emoticon. Why is it that my keystrokes don't change into emoticons all the time?
Second question, my attempted emoticons to my friend show up as characters but hers to me show up as emoticons and "some" from other emailers don't appear for her. We all send on email programs and, as you know, i use a Pop3 account. What causes the keystrokes not to transform into emoticons...is it email incompatibility-a setting which is blocking simple graphics or what do you think? When i go to the Character Map and copy a smiley and paste it into my email and send, it appears to her just like i see it!
