There are other models to be published. Community is important. Lawrence Watt-Evans, an author of SF/Fantasy/Horror, who has over thirty books to his name has written books on a modified Street Performer Protocol. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Performer_Protocol He wasn't getting contracts to write books in a long running and beloved series. He wanted the advance to write so he asked his fans to pay the advance and he made chapters available as he wrote them and he got enough money to finance the chapter. At the end a real book was printed by a real publisher who couldn't afford to put up the advance and the contributors who met a certain target got a physical copy. He was posting in the sci-fi groups on usenet as he was writing. The money was coming in fast enough that he never needed to wait. He is still writing in the standard advance / contract mold as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Watt-Evans ************************************************************************* ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *************************************************************************
